Applying Lip Gloss

lipglossLip gloss is very popular right now. You can find them in almost any store you go in. Glosses can be worn alone or paired with other products. You can never have enough lip gloss. Check out these ways to use your lip gloss.

  • Over lipstick – add a little gloss to your lipstick by applying your lip gloss over your lipstick. It can make your lips feel more moisturized and give them a great shine.
  • Application – when putting on lip gloss, a little goes a long way. A few dabs to the middle of the lips can then be smoothed over using your lips or finger. Don’t out on too much because you will just be wasting it.
  • Add some concealer to lips before gloss to give lips an added flawless smooth look.
  • Make lips light pink and soft line the lips with a pink lip pencil and use pink colored gloss.
  • Light and Medium skin toned – use pale and natural shades for lining lips with a clear lip gloss
  • Darker skin toned – use brown shades with lighter lip glosses

Glosses are a great item to keep on hand at all times. There are so many different types and features to the glosses out now, you should experiment with various colors and textures to find the glosses that work best for you.

Summer Makeup Tips

Since it’s still summer in many parts of the world, here are some more tips you can use to prettify yourself for summer. After all, we can never get enough helpful makeup tips, can’t we? Hope these few pointers enhance your gorgeous features even more!

Cheeks. Due to the warmer rays of the sun, our cheeks are often more glowing during summer . Thus, it’s time to enhance that part and make it even more fabulous by bringing out those blushes and bronzers and putting them to good use. If you’re on the fair side, pink shimmers do wonders to your cheekbones by making them pop. If you’re on the tanned side, you can try a brown-toned bronzer with gold specks for extra fab points. Remember to apply your cheek stain and blusher on bare skin and not on top of powder.

Lipstick. Summer means color, thus the limit to lipstick hue is endless. This is the time to experiment with brighter and more out-there shades of lipstick or lip gloss. Don’t fret about being too loud nor go the usual safe route. It’s the season to be out there and have fun!

Facial Sheets. The humidity of summer entails sweating a lot, so make sure you’ve got handy facial sheets to blot out all the oil before retouching. Blotting occasionally with facial sheets allows your makeup to stay as clean and neat as can be.

Sephora Girls Lip Gloss Key Ring

Who said key chains need to be just that – key chains? Sure there are a lot of cutesy key chains in the market but ain’t it much cooler if your key chain is a key chain and makeup in one?

I just recently discovered that Sephora has a cute line of makeup key ring products called the Lip Gloss Key Ring. The key rings come in very cute shapes and contain glittered lip gloss inside, perfect whenever you feel the need to prettify your lips! You also have four sweet colors to choose from: Strawberry, Raspberry, Blackberry and Cotton Candy.

These key chain lip glosses are so cute yet so affordable, you can give one each to your closest girl friends whether there’s an occasion or not! Or you can buy one yourself. Definitely a small price to pay for such a functional yet pretty accessory.

Lip Gloss for Weight Loss?

So I just recently heard of this lip gloss that supposedly helps you lose weight. It’s called the FUZE Slenderize Guilt Free Lip Gloss and it is this super shiny lip gloss that comes in various healthy and yummy fruit flavors. How does it help you lose weight? They say it has appetite curbing ingredients found in FUZE energy drinks. These ingredients are supposed to help one lose appetite and yet packs on the energy. The motto is “Always on the lips, never on the hips”.

The stated ingredients of this unique lip gloss are: (1) Chromium, a micronutrient that improves the amount of energy we get from food; (2) L-Carnitine, an amino acid that boost energy; and (3) Super Citrimax, a component that’s supposed to help maintain a normal appetite and increases energy at the same time.

The gloss comes in three colors: Blue Raspberry (sheer purple), Dragonfruit Lime (sheer peach), and Strawberry Melon (sheer pink).

Anyone who’s tried this? I’m more than skeptical that something like a lip gloss can curb my appetite (which is generally humongous, by the way) or the appetites of other people but it must be offering something, at the very least. Or not? 😀

Well, if it tastes good, one obvious perk we can get from it is to have ravishingly delicious kissable lips that our boyfriends or partners won’t get enough of.

Lip gloss inviting in skin cancer!

When I saw this headline on the news I had to read more. I am an avid lip gloss wearer and I never would have thought that lip gloss and cancer would even be used in the same sentence! I love my shiny wet look lip gloss, and it seems, that is the exact kind causing the problems. Experts say that the shiny, slickness of the lip gloss could be causing the sun’s rays to hit harder on your lips Surprise. Who would have thought!!!? Glosses can help the light penetrate the skin’s delicate tissues, this is so serious that it leads to the potentially fatal forms of skin cancer. How scary is this, it is estimated that there are about 3500 new cases of lip cancer diagnosed each year.

It is said that it’s the stuff that’s in the lip gloss that is causing the trouble. Our lips naturally have a protective layer but when we continually use gloss for hydration it squashes it down, leaving room for the UV rays to penetrate. It is also believed that the shine of the lip gloss also plays a factor since it is like “putting a magnifying glass on your lips”. So maybe we should be using lip balm with an SPF in it, instead of the cutesy glossy lip gloss?

I don’t know about you, but it will be kinda hard for me to give it upSad. I have lip gloss thrown everywhere in case of a lip emergency. Maybe I’ll try swapping some out for ones with SPF in itWinking.

The proper way to apply lipstick

If you do not want to always reapply your lipstick throughout the day, you can try my favorite lipstick that is made with fruits and botanicals and remains throughout the day, or you can try the following steps so your lips look great all day long! Want to know what it is?  Just shoot me an email and ask. 🙂

  1. Apply a cream such as chapstick or an all natural lip balm that is VEGAN certified (I have just the one)  (it has no bees wax in it and is vegan certified) to the lips.  Using a soft toothbrush, gently remove dead skin cells by brushing gently across the lips.
  2. Apply your foundation as you normally would, putting a thin layer across your lips too.
  3. Apply your lip liner that matches either your lip color or your lipstick exactly.  To make a straight line, rest your elbow on a tabletop.  Draw from your cupids bow (center of the upper lip) to one corner, sticking just outside the natural line of your lips.  Once complete color the rest of your lips with the liner.
  4. Apply your lipstick with a lip brush, blending it from the middle down to the corners of the mouth.  If you are using a very bright color, make sure you go right into the corner.
  5. Blot your lips with a tissue.  Now reapply another coat of your lip color.  Blot again, add lip sealant or lip gloss if desired.
To make lips look bigger – Draw your liner along the outside natural line of your lips.  Shimmery lip color makes lips look larger so choose a shimmer, or dab a little gold eyeshadow in the center of your lips and blend outwards.
For sheer natural lips – Skip the liner and apply your lipstick directly on your lips using a brush.  If you want your lipstick to stay on longer and not run into the creases around your lips, choose a liner that matches your lips and apply it over the lip line and then add a sheer gloss.  By the way, smokers have the lines around their lips more then non-smokers because their lips dry out faster from smoking.  Also, glossy lipsticks are more prone to bleeding than matte or long lasting colors.  Reds bleed more then browns or pinks.  Reds are more prone to melting faster.
To even the thickness of top and bottom lips – Do not try to crate a fake lip line right away, it will look terrible. Instead use a foundation over the lips as mentioned above and draw a line along the outer edge of the lip line on the smaller lip.  Fill in both lips with the liner and cover with lipstick or gloss.
If you have chapped lips – Make sure your lip color does not contain camphor or menthol, this only makes them more chapped and dries them out.  Start your lip color application by first removing the dead skin cells using a toothbrush as mentioned above or a damp washcloth.  The follow the advice above.  Make sure your lip color has an spf of at least 15!

Pucker Up

luscious lipsNo makeup look is complete without lip color. Lipstick, lip gloss, or even just a slick of lip liner will balance heavy eye looks and give focus to the face when you are using more neutral eye shades. However, while most of us take time on our eyes and use the right tools for our base, our lip color is often just dashed on with the stub of a lipstick. Also despite the fact that they are one of the part’s of the body with the thinnest skin and the least natural moisture, we rarely include lips as part of a skin care regime. The result is that many of us end up with chapped or dry lips, spend hours reapplying color because our lip shades won’t stay put and never really make the most of one of the focal points of our face. Well, that does not have to be the case anymore. Creating a perfect pucker is very simple.

Lipstick tips

  • Orange lip color highlights yellow teeth, while bluey reds make them look whiter.
  • Light shades, in particular shimmery shades make lips look bigger and fuller.
  • Dark shades or very matte colors make lips look smaller.
  • Tan skinned people should choose a color slightly darker then you would if you were not tanned so you do not look washed out.
  • Sheer lipstick and lip stains are great as a baby step to darker colors.
Lipstick types
  • Matte – creates an intense, solid color, but as it has little shine it will also contain few moisturizing benefits.  Always apply lip balm before you use it.
  • Satin – more colored and less sticky than gloss.  Offers a shiny finish.  More moisturizing than matte lipstick, but will need more frequent application.
  • Lip Pencils – Softer and thicker than liners, perfect for creating definition.  They have a tendency to dry lips, so its best to stick to neutral or shimmery shades, dark shades show more flaking.
  • Lip Stain – Normally liquid, it offers sheer but long lasting coverage.  Do not use liner with it, just apply it straight to the lips.
  • Lip Sealant – Good for setting very bright, matte colors.  Contains a ton of chemicals so beware of dangerous ingredients that slip through the FDA.  DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN.

Luscious Lips

Did you know that luscious lips can be obtained by applying a sheer layer of a tinted moisturizer over the lips followed by a dusting of loose or pressed powder? Well they do. After you do this first step, choose a lip-colored liner that will match with your lip hue because it will give the gloss something to stick too. Finally, coat your lips twice with either a lip gloss, such as FYI true color, or your favorite lipstick. Lip color will last you a whole lot longer with this approach.
